Lieke worked in international water, sanitation and hygiene management for 5 years. First in Mozambique and then at the Netherlands Institute for Public Health and Environment. During those years she was part of the BlueHealth European Study as a researcher and functioned as a focal point to the United Nations Protocol on Water and Health in the pan-European Region. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Political Science (BSc.) and a Master’s in International Land and Water Management(MSc.). In 2019 she attended the first winter school of University for Life and Peace in Myanmar. She currently advises local governments on implementing new environmental legislation as a communications and engagement advisor. She lives 2 minutes walking distance from the North Sea.
How to be in a healthy relationship with the ocean? This 30-minutes inspirational talk features examples from health and water-related studies (ie European BlueHealth study): How do we benefit from being near water? And how can we maximize these benefits? Furthermore, Lieke will share with us examples from Dutch entrepreneurs who work together with the ocean to come up with sustainable products or who go above and beyond to prevent and clean up ocean pollution.
