Beyond the Blue: The Beauty and Sorrow of Taiwan’s Coastal Waters

Hui-Chun Chang from Taiwan will talk about her journey from growing up in Nantou, the only county on the island that does not border the coast to spending the last 15 years working in marine conservation. Hui-Chun will talk about Kuroshio’s ocean voyage; taking a simple boat to examine Taiwan’s coastline by collecting and analyzing the data of dissolved oxygen, microplastics, and underwater sound and noise, as well as their mission to protect whales and dolphins. Kuroshio Ocean Education Foundation

About the talk:
Kuroshio Ocean Education Foundation was established in 1998. It started with the investigation and recording of whales and dolphins and then grew to encompass various marine education activities through which it is hoped that the public will get close to, understand, and cherish the ocean.  From 2018 to 2019, they conducted an in-depth survey of marine debris, and through publication of their research results, they continue to lobby the public sector to formulate better policies.

This talk will be presented in Chinese, with an English language interpreter.
